What to Expect
Papa Bear Adventures is very unique in regards to taking care of you and your needs from the time you book your hunt until your departure out of Bethel and back to the lower 48.
Here is a rundown of how our operation works:
Upon your arrival into Bethel from your commercial airline, a representative from our team will greet you at the airport, assist you with your luggage, and then shuttle you the short 2-mile trip back to our facility.
The Papa Bear property is where it all happens! This is where our “one-stop-shop” moto comes into play. Our lodge that can host 12 guests is located here, along with our office, our planes, our crew, all of our gear, our staging areas, and the newest feature -- our 24’ walk-in freezer unit.
We plan for you to arrive one day prior to your hunt so that once you join us at our facility, we can go over your gear that will already be pulled for you. We will be sure you have all of your necessary licenses and tags, review all regulations, and square up on any additional payments. You can take this time in one of our staging tents to repack and organize your gear. We also have a storage container where you are welcome to leave behind any personal items such as suitcases, extra clothing, or anything else you might not need out in the field. We will discuss your plans for harvested meat, and what we can do to facilitate those wishes. We also take this time to sit with you to discuss your hunt location, as well as what we expect from you as Papa Bear hunters.
After a good night’s rest, we will fill your bellies with a hot breakfast and some strong coffee. Provided mother nature allows, we will have you wadered up, gear loaded, and in the air before lunch time. Because Alaska regulations state that you are not allowed to hunt on the same day as you fly, you will have the rest of the day to set up camp once you reach your location.
It is mandatory for every hunting group to have a satellite communication device, not only for emergencies, but also to call back to base and let us know when you have an animal down. Our company policy is to let us know as soon as you have a confirmed kill. As long as weather allows, we will make the extra effort to get that meat out of the field as soon as possible to reduce/ eliminate the chance for spoilage.
Once it is time for you to come out of the field, we plan for you to overnight with us again. At this point, you can take this time to repack your bags, grab a hot shower, clean up and package your antlers, manipulate your meat in whatever way necessary, and prepare for the journey home.
On your day of departure from Bethel, we will take you and all of your luggage, coolers, and trophy up to the airline for check in, and be sure you are all set for the long flight home.
All of us here at Papa Bear have a great love for hunting, and we think it should be your main focus when embarking on your great Alaskan adventure. We want you to leave the logistics and worry to us, and let you do your part as a skilled hunter.
Preparing for Your Adventure
To assist you in planning, here are a few items you will need to consider: The 100 lbs. maximum allowable weight per person is the total weight of all the gear, food, and personal bags divided by the number of people in the party. Everything will be weighed prior to loading the aircraft, so it is highly recommended that you weigh your gear or conservatively estimate your weight prior to the trip.
Equipment Rental
We rent rafts, boats with small outboards, and camping equipment, giving you the option of using our equipment versus having to transport or ship equipment to Alaska and back home again. Please contact us with any questions you have concerning equipment or gear rental.
